Women Vs Mens curling

Question for everyone. Why do the women get smaller paychecks then men. Look at the players campionship, same time same game. The women got $25,000 for winning it and the men got $100,000. Like that seems uneven to me.

I do understand that the men are better to watch! But?

Much the same as other Sports then!

Just look at the NBA and the WNBA... Packed housed for an NBA game and maybe 10% full for a WNBA game. Professional Men's Golf Vs Women's Golf, again just more fans watching the guys.. Men's sports put more fans in the seats, thus advertisers put more money into Men's sports because they know more people will be watching, and so their product will be seen by more people... thus the men get paid more. It is really just as simple as that.

Just think about it in terms if they were separate events, held at different times. if the men sold tickets for 1000 seats at $10 a seat, well that's $10,000. Now we know that the women will sell less tickets, thus making less money... thus earning less money.

Only in tennis has the women's game become as popular as the men's game to watch. Which has started to reflect that women are winning the same amount as the men for many of the same tournaments.

Money doesn't grow on trees, and if you can't generate it, then you don't deserve to get it...

Totally wrong, did you watch the game? if you had you would have seen Howard accept a cheque for $25,000. The $100,000 you speak of was the total prize pool.

Women get paid more to do porn. How is that fair?

"Men's sports put more fans in the seats, thus advertisers put more money into Men's sports because they know more people will be watching, and so their product will be seen by more people... thus the men get paid more. It is really just as simple as that."

Yup, it is as simple as that -- the same old circular reasoning. It's not really a reason so much as a description. The top level men are better, so they generate more money, so it attracts more players trying to get better, so it increases competition and makes the players better, so ....

Unfortunately, the answer to the original question is the same as it is in just about any area -- we really don't, as a whole, value the notion of women in sports, so we don't develop and encourage them as much. Also, women have a tendency to accept this, since it's been such a longstanding habit, and there's not much advocacy for change.

Not sure on your angle here but the whole "we don't value women in sports" sounds a bit whiny. Sports are televised purely for one reason: entertainment. For whatever reason, in many cases, the vast majority of entertainment consumers find women's sports less entertaining than men's sports. Here's the thing though: this is not a problem with the consumer as you suggest - it's a problem with the product. If women want their sports watched more, they better find a way to make it more entertaining because, believe me, if it's MORE entertaining, people will come. If they can't do this they need to stop whining and live with their smaller pay checks. It's simply not incumbent on the consumer to watch a product that they perceive to be inferior just because it's the right thing to do.

*sigh*
