Coleen Syrja Scholarship Fund

Saturday December 2, 2006 will be a special night in Thunder Bay for curlers.  A FUNdraiser event will be held to raise funds for the COLLEEN SYRJA JUNIOR CURLING SCHOLARSHIP fund.  Through this scholarship the memory of Colleen's love and commitment will live on.

The FUNdraiser will run from 8 pm - 1 am at the Heritage Building on the C.L.E. grounds in Thunder Bay.  Everyone is invited to have a great time.  Come out and "SHARE OUR DREAM".

The organizing committee plans to have a "Curling Memorabilia Auction" during the evening. Any curlers who would like to send something for the auction can use the following address.  Colleen Syrja Scholarship Fund c/o The Lock Shop  700 Simpson Street  Thunder Bay,  ON  P7C 3K1.

If anyone has questions please contact Roy Larson at 624-2308.

I have finally got my computer back and decided to visit the site, after a prolonged absence from it and note a drastic change to the format.

I would like to comment on Roy Larson's post and possibly provide some clarity to it.  Roy is Colleen's brother and for those who don't know, Colleen was one of the mainstays of the Heart to Heart Charity Bonspiel.  She became ill during the weekend of our 25th Anniversary event and succombed to cancer this Fall.

Colleen was a member of the Northwest Ontario Curling Assoc. Board and loved Junior Curling, hence the idea for a Scholarship Fund in her name.

Something that had become a tradition at the event was an auction of Curlers memorabelia and it was very successful each year.  I would ask that any and all of our former celebrity skips out there and indeed any other national or international celebrity curlers who would like to contribute to the fundraising auction to be held at the dance, please do so and forward your items to the address shown in Roy's message.

On another note, although everyone thought that the 25th would be the last, all is not dead yet.  Interesting developments are occuring as we speak and there may indeed be a 26th Annual, at a venue to be announced, hopefully in the near future.  I will advise if and when things fall in place.  DBZ, if you are out there, you might have yet another place to share your brand of humor.
