Curl in the Zone - The Psychology of Curling Made Easy (book)
—Curl in the Zone—The Psychology of Curling Made Easy.
It’s no secret among world-class curlers that the mental game plays a major role in winning versus losing. Curl in the Zone, recently published by a father-daughter team, Tana Martin and Dr. Garry Martin, explains in simple terms, how to master the mental side of curling. It will help you play “in the zone” again and again; published by Sports Science Press, Winnipeg.
In a Foreword to the book, 2-time Canadian Men's Curling Champion and Olympic Silver Medalist Kevin Martin wrote, “If you are interested in learning about concrete steps that you can take to improve your mental game, this book is an excellent resource, and I highly recommend it.”
Curl in the Zone provides simple strategies to control nervousness and tension, to capitalize on positive self-talk, how to make your attitudes and emotions work for you rather than against you, and a very useful checklist that team members can use regularly to ensure they practice good team psychology.
As Jeff Stoughton says, “A great resource to learn about concentration, mental toughness, and visualization.”
Dr. Garry Martin, a Professor of Psychology at the University of Manitoba, is internationally known for his scientific books and papers on sport psychology. As a consultant to teams and individuals, from beginners to professionals in many sports including curling, he has helped many athletes to improve their performance.
Tana Martin is a graduate of the Physical Education Faculty (Psychology Minor) at the University of Manitoba. While competing in the top curling circuit for women in Canada, she has frequently observed how curlers are affected by their self talk and emotions.
Together they have designed and field-tested valuable mental strategies for helping curlers at all levels.
